Laurie Lewis is a Berkeley-based fiddler, singer, and songwriter whose Bay Area bands — Good Ol' Persons, Grant Street, and Laurie Lewis & the Right Hands — have shaped West Coast bluegrass since the late 1970s. Twice IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year, she helped write one of the era's most-covered songs in "Who Will Watch the Home Place."
- Born Laurie Alexis Lewis on September 28, 1950 in Long Beach, California; settled in Berkeley at age 8.
- Co-founded the all-female bluegrass band Good Ol' Persons with Kathy Kallick in 1975.
- Founded the Grant Street String Band in 1979 (later just Grant Street); debut LP "Grant Street String Band" (1983).
- Solo debut "Restless Rambling Heart" (Flying Fish, 1986); breakthrough "True Stories" (Rounder, 1993).
- IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year (1992 and 1994) and IBMA Song of the Year (1994) for "Who Will Watch the Home Place."
- Long-running duo with mandolinist Tom Rozum; "The Oak and the Laurel" (Rounder, 1995) was Grammy-nominated.
- Contributed to the Grammy-winning compilation "True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe" (Sugar Hill, 1996).
- Renamed her current band Laurie Lewis & The Right Hands in 2006.
