True Stories cover

True Stories is a 1993 Rounder Records album (CD 0300) by Laurie Lewis, her second for the label and one of her most songwriter-forward recordings. The album features Cary Black on bass, Peter McLaughlin on guitar and harmony vocals, Tom Rozum on mandolin and vocals, with Rob Ickes contributing dobro and Todd Phillips bass on select tracks. Lewis — a Bay Area fiddler and vocalist who co-founded the Good Ol' Persons in the 1970s — draws on confessional folk-influenced songwriting alongside bluegrass, balancing personal narratives with the acoustic string-band framework she had developed across more than a decade of recording. The album appeared shortly before a serious auto accident sidelined Lewis and her bandmates and interrupted the momentum of her growing catalog.
