Sing the Songs of Vern and Ray (Spruce and Maple SMM 1012) is a tribute album from West Coast acoustic musicians honoring Vern Williams and Ray Park, the Berkeley, California fiddle-and-guitar duo who became the most revered figures in the Northern California old-time and bluegrass community through their decades of performing together at clubs, concerts, and informal sessions. Kathy Kallick plays guitar and sings; Laurie Lewis plays fiddle and sings; Tom Rozum plays mandolin; Keith Little plays banjo; Sally Van Meter plays dobro; Patrick Sauber plays mandolin; and Michael Rinne holds the bass. All seven performers absorbed Williams and Park's influence directly through the Bay Area acoustic scene, and the tribute presents the duo's repertoire — old-time fiddle tunes, sentimental songs, and traditional bluegrass — through musicians who learned from them in real time.
