Across the Blue Ridge Mountains (Rebel CD 1121, 1995) captures the long-running Ferrum, Virginia band Lost & Found in a stable mid-career lineup. Allen Mills (bass, lead vocals) and Dempsey Young (mandolin, vocals) — both founders from 1973 — anchor sixteen tracks alongside Gene Parker (banjo, vocals), Steve Wilson (guitar, dobro, fiddle, vocals), and Steve Thomas (fiddle). Mills's songwriting roots in southwest Virginia's Blue Ridge homeland are central to the project; his "Love of the Mountains" had become a regional standard, and the title track extends that geographic lyricism. Parker's crisp banjo drive and the band's interweaving harmonies exemplify the straight-ahead Virginia bluegrass tradition they had championed for over two decades. Note: the catalog lists Ronnie Bowman and Ernie Thacker, but published sources confirm neither was in the 1995 lineup.
