Aloha From Nashville was Darrell Scott’s first album, released on Sugar Hill Records (SHCD-3864) in April 1997. It was recorded at EMI Studios in Nashville and produced by Scott with Verlon Thompson. Scott was born in London, Kentucky, and grew up in a family that played together as a band; he moved to Nashville in 1992 and worked as a session musician before the record came out.

The album has eleven tracks, including the instrumental “Banjo Clark.” Three of its songs went on to other singers. Scott wrote “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” after a trip to Harlan County, Kentucky, to research his family history; Patty Loveless recorded it in 2001 on Mountain Soul, with Scott playing banjo. Travis Tritt’s version of “It’s a Great Day to Be Alive,” released in December 2000, reached No. 2 on Billboard’s country singles chart, and the Dixie Chicks recorded “Heartbreak Town” for their 1999 album Fly, issuing it as a single in June 2001.
