American Beauty cover

American Beauty (Sugar Hill SHCD 3882, circa 1993) is a Nashville Bluegrass Band album from the period when Roland White had joined on mandolin, completing what is widely regarded as one of the group's most musically accomplished configurations. Pat Enright on guitar and vocals, Alan O'Bryant on banjo, Stuart Duncan on fiddle, Gene Libbea on bass, and White on mandolin make up an ensemble of exceptional individual capability. By the early 1990s the NBB had established itself as the leading progressive-traditional bluegrass band emerging from Nashville — their tight vocal harmonies, engagement with African-American musical traditions, and championship of older string-band repertoire set them apart from both the commercial mainstream and the more avant-garde new-acoustic movement. American Beauty represents the band near the height of its powers in this configuration.
