America's Favorite Hymns (Ol' Blue Records OBR 20051, 2005) is a bluegrass gospel album from a one-time collective assembled specifically for this project. Melvin Goins, Don Rigsby, and Ernie Thacker divide the lead vocal duties across fifteen traditional gospel pieces, with Matthew Thacker also contributing. The album reflects the bluegrass tradition's deep roots in sacred music, and the three featured vocalists represent distinct strands of that inheritance: Goins from the classic Appalachian family-gospel tradition of the Goins Brothers, Rigsby from the lyric-tenor tradition of progressive-style bluegrass, and Thacker from the conservative gospel-bluegrass schools. According to the liner notes, both Rigsby and Thacker cited the opportunity to record with Goins — whose work with the Goins Brothers had influenced them early in their careers — as their primary motivation for participating in the project.
