Album · 2010 · Rounder 11661 0652 2

At Edward's Barn (Rounder Records 11661 0652 2) is a studio album from Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen, the Desert Rose Band co-founders whose performing partnership spanned country-rock, bluegrass, and acoustic folk across multiple decades, presenting their duo work in the informal barn-session format the title announces. Hillman plays guitar and mandolin and sings; Pedersen plays banjo and guitar and sings. Both performers brought bluegrass roots to the Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers era — Hillman as the Byrds' bassist and mandolinist, Pedersen through his banjo work in California bluegrass circles — and their return to an acoustic duo format allows those roots to surface in a setting stripped of the electric instruments and studio production of their most commercially successful work. The Rounder release documents the informal chemistry of their long collaboration.
