Blue Rambler 2 is the second album by the Laurel Canyon Ramblers, released by Sugar Hill Records on 18 June 1996 (SHCD 3852). The Los Angeles band was formed in 1994 by Herb Pedersen and Bill Bryson, who had worked together in the Desert Rose Band, and its first album, Rambler’s Blues, came out on Sugar Hill in April 1995.
The 1996 sessions were held at Foxfire Recording in Van Nuys, California, with Pedersen as producer. Pedersen sings and plays banjo, guitar and dobro, Billy Ray Latham plays guitar, Kenny Blackwell mandolin, Gabe Witcher fiddle and Bryson bass, and LeRoy McNees adds dobro on “It Won’t Be Long.” Pedersen, Latham, Blackwell and Bryson sing on most of the fourteen tracks. The two instrumentals, “RU4 Reel” and its reprise, open and close the record. The songs include “Preachin’, Prayin’, Singin’” (credited to E. C. McCarty), “Just When I Needed You” (Jack Anglin, Clyde Baum and Johnnie Wright) and “I Wonder If I Care as Much” (Don Everly).
