Bluegrass Legends “Together” collects fifteen songs that Charlie Moore and Don Reno recorded in early January 1973 in Ray Davis’s basement studio in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Davis produced the session and wrote the liner notes. Wango Records issued the recordings on CD in 2000 (WANGOCD 112), more than twenty years after Moore’s death in December 1979.
Moore sings lead and plays guitar, and Reno sings tenor. Jimmy Arnold plays banjo, Larry Jefferson mandolin, Johnny Dacus fiddle and Henry Dockery bass; Dockery had played in Moore’s bands in the 1960s. The program mixes songs from the Monroe repertoire, such as “It’s Mighty Dark to Travel,” with older parlor songs like “The Quilting Party” and “Darlin’ Nellie Gray” and sacred numbers including “Keep on the Firing Line” and “From the Manger to the Cross.” “As Long as I Live” appears twice on the disc.
