Bluegrass Legends Together pairs Don Reno and Charlie Moore in the duet format that had been central to bluegrass since the Stanley Brothers and the Monroe Brothers established the template in the 1930s and 1940s. Reno — the banjoist who built much of the instrument's modern vocabulary alongside Earl Scruggs, and a singer and songwriter of substantial range — works with Moore through traditional and gospel material in arrangements that lean on close harmony and unhurried tempos. Moore's guitar and Reno's banjo provide most of the instrumental architecture, with additional support filling out the ensemble. Released as a posthumous gathering of material from the partnership's working years, the album documents two singers whose individual catalogs have remained better-known than their collaborative work, and serves as a reminder of how much bluegrass history sits in catalog entries that have never quite received the attention of the genre's headline recordings.
