Simon & Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water, released on Columbia Records (KCS 9914) in January 1970, was the duo's fifth and final studio album, produced by Roy Halee with Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Simon plays guitars and sings; Garfunkel sings lead throughout; Larry Knechtel, piano; Hal Blaine, drums; Joe Osborn, bass; Charlie McCoy, harmonica; and Pete Drake, pedal steel guitar and dobro—two of Nashville's definitive session players whose presence connects this mainstream pop landmark directly to country music's studio culture. The album won six Grammy Awards at the 1971 ceremony, including Album of the Year, and has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling records ever released.
