Call of the Honky Tonk, released on Rutabaga Records in 1989, is a resequenced reissue of Charlie Sizemore's debut album Congratulations — originally recorded February 26-27, 1985 at Maggard Sound Studio in Big Stone Gap, Virginia during Sizemore's long tenure as lead singer for Ralph Stanley's Clinch Mountain Boys. Ralph Stanley contributes harmony vocals on Wild Side of Life, I Can See Through You, Long Gone, and A Little at a Time; Stuart Duncan on mandolin and fiddle, Guy Evans on banjo, and Glen Gibson on dobro fill out the band. Sizemore had taken over as the Clinch Mountain Boys' lead vocalist from Keith Whitley as a teenager in 1977; this album marks his first move toward a solo profile beyond the Stanley band.
