Lou Reid and Carolina

Album · 2003 · No label LRC 1954

Carolina I'm Coming Home (LRC Records LRC 1954, 2003) is a studio album from Lou Reid & Carolina, recorded at After 5 Studios in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. By 2003 the working lineup had evolved from the configuration Reid had assembled with co-founder Terry Baucom in the 1990s; sessions feature Lou Reid (mandolin, vocals) alongside Christy Allen (rhythm guitar, vocals), Kevin Richardson (lead guitar, vocals), Joey Cox (banjo), and John Hannabach (bass, vocals). The thirteen-song program leans into the Piedmont Carolina roots that define Reid's writing — hard-driving traditional bluegrass infused with the high tenor work that has been his signature since his Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver years. The album appeared at a productive mid-career period for Reid, who had by then recorded more than a dozen projects under his own name.
