Chris Thile & Brad Mehldau is the debut duo album of mandolinist Chris Thile and pianist Brad Mehldau, released by Nonesuch on 27 January 2017 as a double album of twelve tracks. The two, both Nonesuch artists, first played together in September 2011 at London’s Wigmore Hall during Mehldau’s residency there. They recorded the album on 30 December 2015 and 2–3 January 2016 at Avatar Studios in New York, following two nights at the Bowery Ballroom, with James Farber as engineer. Thile and Mehldau produced it, with Robert Hurwitz as executive producer.

Both play and sing. The program mixes originals and covers: “The Old Shade Tree” is credited to both players, and the covers include Gillian Welch and David Rawlings’s “Scarlet Town,” Elliott Smith’s “Independence Day,” Joni Mitchell’s “Marcie,” Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” and “Tabhair dom do lámh,” by the 16th/17th-century Irish composer Ruaidri Dall Ó Catháin. The album reached number one on Billboard’s Top Jazz Albums and Top Bluegrass Albums charts. At the 2018 ECHO Jazz awards, Thile was nominated in the Special Instruments category and Mehldau in Piano International.
