Christmas Grass: The Best Of is a ten-track selection from the Christmas Grass series, released by Red River Entertainment on 4 October 2019 (RRECD 198). The series began with Christmas Grass (Audium, 2002) and Christmas Grass Vol. 2 (Koch, 2004), and Red River put out a larger set, Christmas Grass: The Collection, in 2013. All ten titles on the 2019 disc are also on that 2013 collection.
Dolly Parton opens with “Christmas Time’s a Comin’,” followed by “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” by Dailey & Vincent, which the 2013 set credits to Darrin Vincent and Jamie Dailey. Rhonda Vincent sings “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town” and “Tennessee Christmas.” The rest of the program has Sonya Isaacs on “Mary, Did You Know?,” John Cowan on “Please Come Home for Christmas,” Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver on “Oh Christmas Candle,” Sarah Jarosz on “One Bright Star,” Russell Moore on “Christmas Is Near” and Bryan Sutton on “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” A companion disc, Christmas Grass – The Instrumentals, appeared in 2019 as well.
