Darrin Vincent is one half of Dailey & Vincent — the bluegrass, country, and gospel duo that has won multiple IBMA, Dove, and Grammy-level honors since 2008 and became Grand Ole Opry members in 2017. A third-generation Missouri bluegrass musician who grew up in his family’s Sally Mountain Show alongside his sister, “Queen of Bluegrass” Rhonda Vincent, he spent 11 years as bassist and harmony singer with Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder before forming his namesake duo with former Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver lead singer Jamie Dailey.

  • Born Darrin Lee Vincent on December 27, 1969 in Kirksville, Missouri; raised in the Greentop area of northeast Missouri. Third-generation bluegrass musician — his grandfather Bill Vincent started the family band, the Sally Mountain Show, and his father Johnny took it over.
  • Joined the Sally Mountain Show at age 2; made his first TV appearance at 3. The family band — Johnny, Carolyn, Rhonda, and Darrin — was a regular fixture at Midwestern festivals and had its own TV show. By his teens, Darrin had mastered bass, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, and Dobro.
  • The Vincent family was based primarily in Missouri (with a brief 1974 stint in Texas and two summers 1977–1978 as musicians at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri). Darrin attended Schuyler County R-1 schools.
  • In 1989, Grand Ole Opry member Charlie Louvin gave up his stage time to let Darrin and the Sally Mountain Show perform.
  • In 1990 began working with John Hartford. Five years later moved with his wife Julie to the Smithville, Tennessee area.
  • 1996: joined Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder as bassist and harmony singer. Stayed with Skaggs for 11 years, performing at the Grand Ole Opry and winning five Grammys and eight IBMA Instrumental Group of the Year awards during his tenure with the band.
  • Met Jamie Dailey — then lead singer for Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver — in October 2001 at the IBMA Awards in Louisville, Kentucky. Their first recorded duet was “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” for the 2004 compilation Christmas Grass Vol. 2; it reached #1 on the Prime Cuts of Bluegrass.
  • Dailey & Vincent debuted as a full touring duo with a show at the Ryman Auditorium on the Grand Ole Opry on December 29, 2007. Their self-titled debut album (2008) launched one of modern bluegrass’s most successful careers.
  • At the 2008 IBMA Awards, Dailey & Vincent made history by sweeping Entertainer of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, and Emerging Artist of the Year, while their debut album won Album of the Year and “By the Mark” took Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year.
  • Inducted as members of the Grand Ole Opry on March 11, 2017. Host their own Dailey & Vincent Show on RFD-TV, now in its sixth-plus season.
  • Has earned five Grammy Awards plus additional nominations, 13+ IBMA Awards, 23+ SPBGMA Awards, and multiple Dove Awards from the Gospel Music Association. Has performed or recorded with Dolly Parton, Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris, Earl Scruggs, Bruce Hornsby, Vince Gill, John Hartford, and many others.
  • As a producer, has earned Grammy nominations for projects by his sister Rhonda Vincent, Susie Luchsinger, Cherryholmes, and Hunter Berry. Lives in Brentwood, Tennessee with his wife Julie.
