Honoring the Fathers of Bluegrass cover

Honoring the Fathers of Bluegrass, released by Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder in 2008, is an explicit tribute album directed at the founding generation of the music Skaggs grew up loving. The project pays homage to Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, the Stanley Brothers, and other architects of the genre, situating Skaggs and his band within a clear lineage of stylistic inheritance. Skaggs's credentials for such an undertaking are impeccable: he played with Ralph Stanley as a teenager, recorded with J.D. Crowe's New South in his early twenties, and absorbed the Monroe tradition directly. Kentucky Thunder provides the technical firepower to meet the demands of this repertoire without tipping into mere mimicry.
