Singing From the Heart was released by Rounder Records on 20 October 2009 (11661-0610-2), the third Dailey & Vincent album after their self-titled debut in January 2008 and Brothers from Different Mothers in March 2009. Unlike those, it is a gospel collection sung entirely without instruments, in keeping with the Church of Christ practice of a cappella worship.
Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent produced it, and the idea dates to 2001, before they began working as a duo: Dailey had talked with Malcolm Hill, chancellor of Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville, Tennessee, about a gospel CD to raise scholarship money, and part of the proceeds went to the college. The twelve songs are sung as quartets, with the pair joined by guest singers including Andy Ball, Glenn Dustin, Anthony Facello, Tony King, Shawn Lane and Jeff Pearles, and Doyle Lawson on baritone on “Near the Cross.” Hymns on the record include “Amazing Grace,” “Farther Along,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “I Am Resolved.” Fred Bartenstein wrote the liner notes. The International Bluegrass Music Association nominated the album for Best Liner Notes and nominated “Don’t You Wanna Go to Heaven” for Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year.
