Rhonda Vincent
Contemporary Bluegrass
Rhonda Vincent is one of the dominant voices in contemporary bluegrass — a seven-time IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year, Grand Ole Opry member, and bandleader of the Rage for over two decades. Her catalog on Giant, Rounder, and her own Upper Management Music spans mainstream country, traditional bluegrass, and contemporary crossover, making her one of the few artists to have succeeded in all three adjacent genres.
- Began performing in the family band the Sally Mountain Show as a child, touring with her father Johnny Vincent, brothers Darrin and Brian, and mother Carolyn.
- Early Rebel Records solo releases: New Dreams and Sunshine (1988), Time for Me (1991), A Dream Come True (1990).
- Signed to Giant Records Nashville in 1993, attempting a mainstream country career; released Written in the Stars (1993) and Trouble Free (1996) before the label was absorbed.
- Returned to bluegrass with a vengeance on Back Home Again (Rounder, 2000), launching the Rage and establishing her modern era.
- The Storm Still Rages (Rounder, 2003) won the IBMA Album of the Year; One Step Ahead (2003), Ragin' Live (2005), and All American Bluegrass Girl (2006) cemented her dominance.
- Named IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year seven times (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009) — more than any other artist in that category. Billboard called her “the new Queen of Bluegrass.”
- The Rage lineup has included Hunter Berry, Mickey Harris, Ben Helson, Josh Williams, Aaron McDaris, Brent Burke, and Tim Crouch at various times.
- Duet album All the Rage: Volume One (2012) with Gene Watson expanded her country-bluegrass crossover audience.
- Only Me (2014) was a half-country/half-bluegrass double-sided concept album; Sunday Morning Singing Live (2022) won the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album.
- Inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry on February 28, 2021 — one of only a handful of bluegrass artists to hold that distinction.
- Her brother Darrin Vincent (of Dailey & Vincent) is a frequent collaborator and fellow IBMA-decorated artist.
