Future Blues: A Celebration of Paramount Records is a 2003 various-artists CD of new performances of songs by artists who recorded for Paramount. Paramount was the label of a subsidiary of the Wisconsin Chair Company, which made phonograph cabinets, and it stopped recording in 1932. Most of the album’s eleven tracks are blues. Langhorne Slim sings “Mississippi Bo Weevil Blues” and the closing title song, and the other performers include Sue Foley, Michael Hill, Deanna Bogart, Eileen Ivers and the Hellhounds.
Rhonda Vincent’s contribution, “Been on the Job Too Long,” was first an old-time record on Paramount. Wilmer Watts and the Lonely Eagles, with Watts on banjo, recorded it in New York around October 1929, and it was released on Paramount 3210 with “Knocking Down Casey Jones” on the other side. The song is a form of the traditional ballad “Duncan and Brady.”
