Aubrey Haynie
Aubrey Haynie is a Nashville first-call session fiddler and multi-instrumentalist — one of the most in-demand studio musicians in country and bluegrass recording of the past 25 years, and an ACM Fiddle of the Year winner (2004).
- Born Aubrey E. Haynie in Tampa, Florida. Began taking fiddle lessons at age nine from his grandmother's cousin, Ted Locke. Added mandolin two years later.
- At 16 won first place in the contemporary division of the Florida fiddling championships for the second time, playing “Wild Fiddler's Rag” and “Skater's Waltz.”
- Played with the Tampa-based Bluegrass Parlor Band, founded by Tom Henderson. Mentored by fellow Florida native Chubby Wise, the original Blue Grass Boys fiddler.
- Also influenced heavily by Kenny Baker's fiddle albums.
- Left school at 16 and began touring with country star Aaron Tippin in the early 1990s; two years later joined Clint Black's touring band as a teenager.
- Moved to Nashville at 18 (1992). Studied privately with Mark O'Connor, who was then an adjunct professor at Vanderbilt University.
- Lost two violins and a bow in August 1996 when a lightning-induced fire burned down Tim Austin's Doobie Shea Studios.
- Released three solo albums on Sugar Hill Records: Doin' My Time (1997), A Man Must Carry On (2000), and The Bluegrass Fiddle Album (2003). All three featured mostly original compositions.
- Earned IBMA nominations for Emerging Artist of the Year and Instrumental Album of the Year in 1998. Won IBMA Instrumental Album of the Year in 2003 for The Bluegrass Fiddle Album.
- Won the fiddle category at the 2004 Academy of Country Music Awards.
- Session credits include Randy Travis, Shania Twain, SHeDaisy, Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Rhonda Vincent, George Jones, Porter Wagoner, Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Dierks Bentley, and dozens of others across country, bluegrass, and pop.
- Featured on IBMA Recorded Event of the Year Bluegrass '95 (1996) with Scott Vestal, Adam Steffey, Wayne Benson, Barry Bales, and Clay Jones.
- Won IBMA Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year in 1998 as a contributor to Stanley Gospel Tradition: Songs About Our Savior.
- Continues active session work in Nashville. Equally skilled on fiddle and mandolin.
