Ready to Go is the first solo album by flatpicking guitarist Bryan Sutton, released by Sugar Hill Records on 22 February 2000 (SHCD 3906). Sutton produced it. Most of it was recorded and mixed at 1103 Studios in Nashville by David Ferguson and Mark Howard, and Dolly Parton’s track was recorded at O’Henry Sound Studios in Los Angeles. Sutton plays guitar on every track, with mandolin on many of them, and Aubrey Haynie (fiddle) and Dennis Crouch (bass) play on most of the tracks.

The program mixes Sutton’s own pieces (“Decision at Gladys Fork,” “Highland Rim,” “Walk Among the Woods,” “Grover Glen,” “The Good Deed”) with other writers’ material: Bill Monroe’s “Brown County Breakdown,” with Ron Block on banjo and David Harvey on mandolin; Kirk McGee’s “Blue Night,” sung by Pat Enright with Ricky Skaggs on mandolin and Rob Ickes on dobro; the Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli tune “Minor Swing”; the Gershwins’ “Lady Be Good”; and U2’s “When Love Comes to Town,” with Jerry Douglas on dobro. Becky Isaacs Bowman sings “The Water Is Wide,” and Parton sings her own “Smoky Mountain Memories” to Sutton’s guitar and mandolin. Sutton was named IBMA Guitar Player of the Year in 2000.
