Album · 2019 · Mountain Home MH 18622

The Hole is a 2019 Mountain Home Music Company EP (MH 18622) by Kentucky-born tenor John Bowman, comprising six tracks of country and bluegrass gospel produced with a high-caliber Nashville instrumental cast. Aubrey Haynie plays fiddle and mandolin, Rob Ickes handles resonator guitar, Keith McKinnon contributes banjo, and Troy Parker rounds out the ensemble. The program includes a bluegrass reading of Merle Haggard's "Silverthorn Mountain" alongside original and traditional material. Haynie — a multiple CMA Award winner who has recorded with dozens of major country and bluegrass acts — and Ickes, a multi-IBMA Dobro Player of the Year, frame Bowman's expressive gospel tenor with instrumental authority that exceeds the EP format's modest length.
