Doin' My Time, released in 2006 on Sugar Hill (SHCD 3870), is fiddler Aubrey Haynie's tribute to Jimmy Martin, recorded the year after Martin's death. Haynie pulled a Nashville all-star cast — Dan Tyminski, Ricky Skaggs, Gene Johnson, and Don Rigsby on vocals; Bryan Sutton on guitar; Bela Fleck on banjo; Jerry Douglas on Dobro; Dennis Crouch on bass — through a program of Martin signatures and lesser-known cuts from the Decca and Starday catalogs. Haynie himself plays both fiddle and mandolin and produces. The record functions as a recasting of Martin's hard-driving, vocal-led sound through the lens of a younger generation of Nashville session players, with Haynie's fiddle filling the role usually held by Paul Williams's tenor.
