The Bluegrass Fiddle Album (Sugar Hill Records SUG-CD 3957, 2003) is a studio album from Nashville session fiddler Aubrey Haynie, assembling a strictly acoustic bluegrass ensemble for a program of traditional tunes and original instrumentals. Haynie plays fiddle throughout; Tony Rice plays guitar; Sam Bush plays mandolin; David Talbot plays banjo; and Barry Bales holds the bass. The cast represents some of the most technically accomplished acoustic players active in bluegrass at the time, and their collective precision is the defining character of the record. Haynie's fiddle playing — clean, fast, and melodically transparent — suits the uncluttered five-part bluegrass format, and The Bluegrass Fiddle Album serves as one of the clearest statements of his abilities as a solo voice in a traditional ensemble context.
