Oh the weather outside is frightful
And the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow let it snow let it snow

It doesn't show signs of stoppin'
And I brought me some corn for poppin'
The lights are turned way down low
Let it snow let it snow let it snow

When we finally say goodnight
I'll hate going out in the storm
But if you really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

The fire is slowly dying
And my dear we're still goodbyeing
But as long as you love me so
Let it snow let it snow let it snow

History

Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne wrote “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” in Hollywood in July 1945, during a heat wave, imagining cooler weather. The words never mention Christmas — two sweethearts are kept indoors by a snowstorm, and neither is in a hurry for it to stop — but the song became a Christmas standard all the same. Vaughn Monroe made the first record that fall for RCA Victor, with the Norton Sisters; it came out just after Thanksgiving and was number one on Billboard’s best-seller chart into 1946. Woody Herman, Connee Boswell and Bob Crosby recorded it that first winter too, Frank Sinatra issued it as a single in 1950, and Dean Martin’s version, recorded in 1959 and again in 1966, has charted every season since 2018.
