Ragin’ Live (Rounder 11661-0553-2) was released on 8 March 2005. It was recorded before an audience at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis, and Rhonda Vincent, who is from Missouri, opens with a spoken introduction by Hank Janney before twenty songs. The band is her Rage lineup of the time: Josh Williams on guitar and mandolin, Kenny Ingram on banjo and guitar, Hunter Berry on fiddle and mandolin and Mickey Harris on bass, with Vincent herself on mandolin, guitar and fiddle. The credits also list Cody Kilby (guitar), Chris Sexton (cello, viola, fiddle), Sally Sandker (harmony vocals) and John Gardner (percussion) as special guests. A DVD of the concert was also issued.
The set begins with Vincent’s own “Kentucky Borderline,” which won IBMA Song of the Year in 2004, and runs through “Drivin’ Nails in My Coffin,” “Missouri Moon,” the breakdown “Me Too,” Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” “So Happy I’ll Be” and “Muleskinner Blues.” Williams sings lead on “Cheatin’ Kind of Life.” At release Vincent had been named IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year five years running, and Ragin’ Live was nominated for the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album.
