Clear Waters Remembered (Geordie Records GEORDIE 101, 1974) is a studio album from Jean Ritchie, the Viper, Kentucky singer and dulcimer player who became the central figure in the Appalachian dulcimer's folk-revival rediscovery, released on her own Geordie Records imprint. Ritchie plays dulcimer and guitar and sings throughout; Dick Weissman plays banjo and guitar; Russ Savakus holds the bass; Eric Weisberg plays fiddle; Happy Traum plays guitar and banjo; and Peter Pickow plays guitar. The program includes several of Ritchie's most enduring original compositions — "Black Waters," "Blue Diamond Mines," and "West Virginia Mine Disaster" — alongside traditional Appalachian material, presenting her mining-protest songwriting alongside the family songs she carried from Viper. The ensemble largely mirrors the players from her 1965 Warner Bros. album A Time for Singing, giving Clear Waters Remembered a settled, confident quality.
