Cold Dog Soup is Guy Clark’s 1999 album for Sugar Hill (SUG-CD-1063), released on 26 October 1999. It has twelve songs and was recorded in Nashville with the musicians Clark toured with. Clark produced it with Verlon Thompson, Darrell Scott and Chris Latham, who also recorded it. Thompson and Scott play on nearly every track, on guitar, banjo, mandolin, mandocello, dobro and accordion among other instruments, and Emmylou Harris sings harmony on Steve Earle’s “Fort Worth Blues” and on “Be Gone Forever,” written by Anna McGarrigle and Keith Sykes.

Clark wrote the title song with Mark Sanders, “Ain’t No Trouble to Me” and “Die Tryin’” with Jon Stewart, and “Men Will Be Boys,” “Indian Head Penny” and “Bunkhouse Blues” with Verlon Thompson; “Water Under the Bridge” and “Red River” are his alone. “Sis Draper,” written with Shawn Camp, has Camp on fiddle, guitar and harmony vocals and Thompson on banjo.
