Comin’ Home to Stay cover

Comin' Home to Stay, Ricky Skaggs's 1988 release on Epic, comes from the back end of his major-label country run — the seven-year stretch beginning with Waitin' for the Sun to Shine in 1981 during which Skaggs had been one of country radio's most visible neotraditionalists. By this point he was scaling back from the chart-leading pace of his early 1980s output, but the album maintains the bluegrass-rooted ensemble work and tight production that had defined his Epic catalog. Skaggs would soon move toward the bluegrass-focused records of his later career, but Comin' Home to Stay belongs to the country-radio period that proved a bluegrass musician could be one of mainstream country's biggest stars.
