Deep in the Mountains is a 2008 Rounder Records album (11661-0578-2) by Longview, the rotating all-star bluegrass supergroup that records at Long View Recording Studio in North Brookfield, Massachusetts. This fourth album marks the first Longview recording to feature J.D. Crowe on banjo and Lou Reid on guitar and vocals alongside returning members Don Rigsby (mandolin, vocals), Marshall Wilborn (bass, vocals), and Ron Stewart (fiddle, vocals). The five-piece lineup, drawing on some of bluegrass's most decorated traditional practitioners, delivers mid-century bluegrass classics in the Monroe, Jim & Jesse, and Stanley Brothers mold that has been Longview's aesthetic home since their 1997 debut won the IBMA Recorded Event of the Year. Note: catalog personnel lists Joe Mullins, who appeared on earlier Longview recordings but not this 2008 album.
