Del McCoury and the Dixie Pals was released on Revonah Records in 1975 (R-916). BGD dates the sessions to 1974. Paul Gerry produced and engineered the LP, which has liner notes by Nick Barr. It was made well before McCoury’s sons joined his band in the 1980s.
McCoury sings every vocal and plays guitar. The Dixie Pals on the record are Bill Runkle on banjo, Bill Poffinberger on fiddle and Dewey Renfro on bass, with Dick Staber and Donnie Eldreth sharing the mandolin. Twelve songs fill the two sides, among them “We Live a Long Time,” “Kentucky Moon,” “Are You Teasing Me,” “Walkin’ the Dog” and “If You’ve Got the Money, Honey.” McCoury wrote three of them (“Love So Far Away,” “Cheater’s in the Soup” and “The First Time She Left”), and Runkle wrote the banjo instrumental “Round Pickin’.”
