Desert Rose cover

Desert Rose, released in 1984 on Sugar Hill Records, is a solo acoustic project from Chris Hillman, the co-founder of the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers whose early career as a bluegrass mandolinist preceded his rock and country rock fame. Returning to Sugar Hill — a label defined by serious acoustic music — Hillman made an album that honored the pre-Byrds version of himself without disowning what had come between. Desert Rose led directly to the formation of the Desert Rose Band, the country group that would produce Hillman's commercial peak in the late 1980s. The 1984 record is the work of a musician in conversation with the acoustic traditions that first formed him.
