Don't Close Your Eyes is a 1988 RCA Records studio album by Kentucky-born country singer Keith Whitley, his second LP and the last released during his lifetime before his death on May 9, 1989. Produced by Garth Fundis, the album features Rob Hajacos on fiddle and backing harmonies from Emmylou Harris and Vern Gosdin. The title track reached number one on the Billboard country charts, and the album showcases Whitley's exceptional vocal command — a direct, emotionally unflinching delivery shaped by years studying Ralph Stanley, the Osborne Brothers, and Lefty Frizzell. Whitley had served his bluegrass apprenticeship in Ralph Stanley's Clinch Mountain Boys and J.D. Crowe's New South before his mainstream country breakthrough, and traces of that hard-country bedrock are audible throughout.
