Down Home presents Josh Williams, a Kentucky-born singer and guitarist who had established himself as an in-demand sideman before this 2011 solo release, in a setting designed to showcase his own musical personality. Williams had performed with Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, where his guitar work and harmony singing contributed substantially to that group's commercial and artistic success. His own record reveals a musician deeply schooled in traditional bluegrass but with a natural modern sensibility. The album's title signals its intention: to ground the music in the unadorned acoustic tradition of the Kentucky and Tennessee mountains that formed Williams's musical inheritance.
