The Dead South's Easy Listening for Jerks, Part 1, released on DevilDuck Records (DDUCK 094) in March 2022, is a six-track EP of public-domain folk and bluegrass covers by the Canadian string band from Regina, Saskatchewan. Nate Hilts plays guitar, mandolin, and sings lead; Scott Pringle, guitar, mandolin, and vocals; Daniel Kenyon, cello and bass—the cello being the band's distinctive sonic signature; Colton Crawford, banjo. Covers include "Keep on the Sunny Side," "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," and "You Are My Sunshine." DevilDuck, a Dutch-German roots and Americana label, has championed the band for European markets where their folk-bluegrass-with-punk-energy approach has attracted large festival audiences well beyond the traditional bluegrass circuit.
