The Del McCoury Band's Family Circle, released on McCoury Music (MCM 0014) in October 2009, is the label's third release and the band's first studio album since Alan Bartram replaced Mike Bub on bass in 2005. Del McCoury plays guitar and sings; Ronnie McCoury, mandolin; Rob McCoury, banjo; Jason Carter, fiddle; and Bartram, upright bass. By 2009 the band had won six consecutive IBMA Entertainer of the Year awards and established McCoury Music—launched in 2003—as one of bluegrass's most credible independent imprints. The title underscores what the band literally is: a family circle with Del flanked by sons Ronnie and Rob, and long-tenured sidemen completing an ensemble the band has sustained with unusual continuity across two decades of steady performing.
