Far Away, Down on a Georgia Farm was released by Shanachie (catalog number 6045) on 16 November 1999. Norman Blake is the only musician credited. He plays guitar, mandolin, six-string banjo and Dobro and sings, and he mixed the album with its engineer, Jim Emrich.

The CD has eighteen tracks. Seven are credited to Blake as writer: the title song, “Whiskey Deaf and Whiskey Blind,” “Savannah Rag,” “The Winds of Time Won’t Change,” “Thelma Hatfield,” “Faded Flowers in Old Love Letters” and “Just Another Faded Love Song.” Alton Delmore wrote “Goin’ Back to the Blue Ridge Mountains” and Gussie Davis wrote “The Maple on the Hill.” The rest are credited as traditional, among them “New Century Hornpipe,” “Rag Baby Jig,” “Constitution March,” “Give Me Back My Fifteen Cents” and “Headlight Reel.”
