Fiddler’s Pastime is the first solo album by fiddler Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, who at the time was fiddler with the band Mile Twelve. It was released on 4 September 2020 on the Sugar Petunia label (SPR 0027). Wes Corbett, who plays banjo on the record, produced it, and it was recorded in January and February 2020 at the Rec Room Studio. The core band on every track is Keith-Hynes on fiddle, Jake Stargel on guitar, Corbett on banjo, Harry Clark on mandolin and Jeff Picker on bass.

The 11 tracks mix originals with songs from other writers. Keith-Hynes wrote “Hendersonville Hop” and “Michelle’s Waltz,” co-wrote “Open Water” with Sierra Hull, who plays mandolin on it, and co-wrote “North Garden” with Chris Eldridge. Sarah Jarosz sings “Last Train” and plays mandolin on it, and Tim O’Brien sings “The Minstrel Boy,” for which he composed a new melody to Thomas Moore’s poem. James Kee sings lead on “Hello Trouble” and “I Don’t Know Why,” with O’Brien on tenor, and Eldridge sings and plays guitar on John Hartford’s “Natchez Whistle.” Laura Orshaw adds a second fiddle on the title track, and Darol Anger contributed sleeve notes.
