Final Fling — One Last Time (Just for Kicks), released by Columbia in 1970 (CS 9649), is among the final albums issued under the Flatt and Scruggs partnership before its February 1969 dissolution — sessions cut in the duo's last working months and prepared for release after the split. The Foggy Mountain Boys lineup behind them by this point had been a working band for over a decade; the album rolls through familiar repertoire alongside material reflecting Columbia's late push toward folk-revival audiences. The title's brittle humor reads in hindsight as Flatt's verdict on the partnership's commercial drift. Within a year both leaders would have new bands and new label arrangements; Final Fling closes the Flatt and Scruggs catalog.
