Flower From the Fields of Alabama was released by Shanachie (catalog number 6053) on 12 June 2001. The sixteen tracks run about 68 minutes. Norman Blake sings and plays guitar, mandolin, fiddle and slide guitar, and Bob Chuckrow plays guitar and mandola and sings harmony; Jim Emrich is the engineer and joins Blake and Chuckrow on the vocals of “Eastbound Freight Train.”

Most of the songs are credited as traditional, including “Salty Dog,” “Bonaparte’s Grand March,” “The Gambler’s Dying Words,” “Little Bunch of Roses” and the title song. Blake wrote “The Slopes of Beech Mountain,” “Radio Joe” and “T.A.G. Railroad Rag.” Lonnie Chatmon and Walter Vinson are credited on “Sitting on Top of the World,” Grandpa Jones on “Eastbound Freight Train,” and Albert E. Brumley on the closing “If We Never Meet Again (This Side of Heaven).”
