Forever and a Day, released in 2010, is an album by the Krüger Brothers, the Swiss-born trio whose sophisticated, classically informed take on American acoustic music made them one of the more distinctive acts in contemporary bluegrass and folk. Uwe Krüger on guitar and lead vocals, his brother Jens Krüger on banjo, and Joel Landsberg on bass had relocated to North Carolina and immersed themselves in the music of the southern mountains, filtering it through a chamber-music sensibility and Jens's harmonically adventurous banjo. The trio's original writing and carefully chosen interpretations — including a reading of Bob Dylan's 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right' — reflect their unusual path into the tradition: outsiders by birth who became fluent, even scholarly students of it. Forever and a Day shows the band's hallmark blend of technical refinement, restraint, and a warmth that keeps the polish from ever sounding cold.
