The Forbes Family's Gleams of That Golden Morning, recorded in August 1983 and released on Rebel Records (REB-1631) in 1984, is the North Carolina siblings' debut nationally distributed album, made when the four were teenagers and young adults. Homer Forbes plays banjo; Jay Forbes, mandolin and resonator guitar; Lori Forbes, bass; Lisa Forbes sings lead throughout. Tracy Keenan plays guitar as a supplementary session member. The group came to Rebel's attention after years of regional performance, and the debut was received warmly for its polished harmonies and imaginative bluegrass gospel arrangements—including a cappella numbers alongside full-band instrumentals. The Forbes Family went on to record two additional albums for Rebel through 1986, cementing their place in the label's gospel-bluegrass catalog.
