Going Back (Rounder Records CD 0314) is a studio album from David McLaughlin and Josh Crowe, two performers whose family connections to the core of traditional bluegrass — McLaughlin as the mandolinist of the Johnson Mountain Boys, Crowe as the son of J.D. Crowe — give their ensemble work an authority rooted in direct personal inheritance from the tradition's most demanding practitioners. McLaughlin plays mandolin and sings; Crowe plays banjo.
