Grass Roots is a 2023 Compass Records album (7 4813-2) by Leftover Salmon — Drew Emmitt (mandolin, vocals), Vince Herman (acoustic guitar, vocals), Greg Garrison (bass, vocals), Andy Thorn (banjo, vocals), Jay Starling (dobro, lap steel, keyboards, vocals), and Alwyn Robinson (drums) — presenting an all-covers program revisiting the bluegrass and roots songs the band played in its early campground days at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Billy Strings joins as a guest on "Blue Railroad Train," alongside Darol Anger on fiddle and Oliver Wood. The covers concept emerged when new original material was slow-coming, resulting in an album that documents the acoustic folk and bluegrass bedrock beneath the band's jam-band reputation.
