Heavenly Treasures, the second Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver gospel album on Sugar Hill (1983), brought a newcomer into the lineup — bassist Randy Graham replacing Lou Reid — while preserving the close four-part harmony singing that had distinguished Rock My Soul two years earlier. Lawson on mandolin, Terry Baucom on banjo, and Jimmy Haley on guitar continue the band's instrumental core, with Mike Auldridge guesting on pedal steel for Too Much to Gain to Lose and God Sent an Angel. The album outsold the band's secular work, a pattern that would persist throughout Quicksilver's career: the gospel records consistently reached audiences the bluegrass-only releases did not. Heavenly Treasures cemented Lawson's standing as the genre's foremost contemporary gospel curator.
