Hit Parade of Love: Live 1958–1960 was released by Music Mill Entertainment on 26 February 2001 (MME 71003-2). Its ten tracks are live recordings of Jimmy Martin and the Sunny Mountain Boys on the Louisiana Hayride, the radio program broadcast from the Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport on KWKH. Each track comes from a different night, from 18 January 1958 to 2 January 1960, and the Hayride itself went off the air in August 1960. Martin plays guitar and sings lead throughout. Praguefrank’s discography lists Paul Williams and J.D. Crowe as possible members of the band on the 1958 and 1959 dates.
The program opens with “Hit Parade of Love,” which Martin had first recorded in a Nashville studio session on 9 May 1956. Among the other songs are “You’ll Be a Lost Ball,” credited to Johnny Goble and Martin, “Rock Hearts,” credited to Bill Otis, and also “John Henry,” “Worried Man Blues,” “Brakeman’s Blues” and “Somebody Touched Me.” “Pike County Breakdown,” recorded on 15 February 1958, is the one instrumental.
