Infamous Angel is a 1992 Philo/Rounder Records debut album by Arkansas-born vocalist Iris DeMent, produced by Jim Rooney and reissued on Warner Bros. in 1993. The recording features Mark Howard on acoustic guitar, Stuart Duncan on fiddle and mandolin, Al Perkins on dobro, Roy Huskey Jr. on upright bass, and Pete Wasner on piano; Emmylou Harris contributes harmony vocals on "Mama's Opry" and DeMent's mother Flora Mae appears on "Higher Ground." Liner notes were contributed by John Prine. Drawing on old-time country, gospel, and Appalachian sacred song, the album introduced DeMent's unadorned, emotionally direct style to a broad audience; "Our Town" became widely known through its use in the television series Northern Exposure.
