Instrumentals (Skaggs Family Records SKFR 1007, 2006) is an all-instrumental album by Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. It won the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album and reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Bluegrass Albums chart.

The eleven tracks were recorded at Skaggs Place Studios, with Skaggs producing. Skaggs plays mandolin and archtop guitar on nearly every track, and also banjo and other instruments; the band is Cody Kilby on rhythm and solo guitar, Andy Leftwich on fiddle, Mark Fain on bass and Jim Mills on banjo, who is on nine of the eleven tracks. Jeff Taylor adds accordion and, on “Crossing the Briney” and “Goin’ to the Ceili,” whistle or penny whistle; Andy Statman plays clarinet on “Gallatin Rag,” and the Nashville String Machine joins on “Crossing the Briney,” the longest track at just over seven minutes.

The titles include “Goin’ to Richmond,” “Missing Vassar,” “Wayward to Hayward,” “Montana Slim,” “Crossville,” “Dawg’s Breath,” “Spam Jelly” and “Polk City.”
