It’s a Cold Cold World was released by Webco in 1989 as an LP (WLPS 0131) and a cassette, and reissued on CD in 1995 as Webco Classics, Volume Two (Webco WEB 6002). It was recorded in July 1988 at Norman Wright Studio in Falls Church, Virginia. James King sings lead and plays guitar, with Brian Wetzel on lead guitar and tenor vocals, Bill Emerson on banjo, Jimmy Gaudreau on mandolin, Joe Meadows on fiddle and Ernie Sykes on bass. Emerson adds baritone vocals on “You’re Still to Blame” and “Sweethearts in Heaven.”
King is credited as composer of several of the ten songs, including the title song, “I Just Want to Grow Old Lovin’ You,” “My Lord Keeps a Record,” “It Must Be Love” and “The Moon Shines Down on Me.” The rest are “You’re Still to Blame” (credited to C. Stanley), “I Am Weary” (Pete Kuykendall), “She’s Left Me Again” (Jimmy Martin), “Sweethearts in Heaven” and “Sophronie” (Alton Delmore and D. C. Mullins). It was King’s first album credited to him alone. He had sung lead on Introducing James King, recorded in December 1985 with Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys and released by Wango in 1986, and his first Rounder album, These Old Pictures, followed in 1993.
